Azazel

This early Christian Demon is symbolized as a Goat-like creature. An early Medieval practice was to take a Village Goat and transfer all the sins of The Village into the animal (Azazel). The goat would them be led out into the local forest (to be killed) thus ridding the Village of it's sins. It is said that the term Scapegoat derived form this belief. Azazel was given a much more darker personality by the 16th Century, as one of Satan's primary Arch Demons .
