The Metrical Charm was a series of written incantations used as a form of healing ''magic'' and used by The Anglo-Saxons from the 8th thru 10th Century AD. Most of the following of these ''spells'' were before the full adoption of Western Christianity. The practice involved the repeated ''chanting'' of various words and stanzas thought to illicit ''well being'' or ''healing''. Conversely, even the repeated writing of a spell (over and over again), on an Object (cup, plate etc.) - was seen as a means of passing on the desired effect onto consumed food or drink. Similar example of Metrical Charms can also be found in Norse Religion and Medicine.
