Mathew Steel 151 Posted June 20, 2016 I love music. I always have and always will. I tend to listen to mellow or "sad" songs, Billy Joel, James Blunt, Tom Odell, that sort of things. I'm curious to know, if any of you play an instrument and if so, what? If you'd like to share a video of yourself playing that'd be great and if not, absolutely fine of course :) I myself play piano and have done for about a year. 0 "Gofyn wyf am galon hapus, calon onest, calon l?n." Crusader1307 298 Posted June 20, 2016 Keyboards, a little Piano (VERY little), although how I can play Keyboards is a mystery :DA tad with Drums and of course my favorite - The Blues Harmonica (of which I am somewhat good). I taught myself The Fife (I am a Historian, of course)................. And no, I won't post a Video (Ha). I love ALL kinds of Music. My "Periods" are vast and unique. From Classical to Hard Rock, from Pop to of course Punk and Heavy Metal. It all depends on my "Mood" any given day. I love discussing Classic Rock and Blues (of course). 0 Ego Sum Re Historica Meritissimus https://www.stronghold-nation.com/history/quiz https://www.stronghold-nation.com/history/thru-ages/
Mathew Steel 151 Posted June 21, 2016 (edited) That's very interesting that you can play the Keyboard but not so much the piano! Never heard of that before :D Drums are always a cool thing to play haha!? I'm currently teaching myself "Always a Woman To Me" by Billy Joel. It's such a lovely song and I'm surprisingly doing well so far! It's one of the few songs I can sing to whilst playing without messing up :/ I suppose to an extent my music taste isn't so much per artist but more per song. Meaning I pick and choose songs from different artists, for example, I like some songs by The Eagles and others not so much. Although, I happily listen to any music being played, as long as it isn't techno or dubstep :P Edited June 21, 2016 by Mathew Steel 0 "Gofyn wyf am galon hapus, calon onest, calon l?n." Crusader1307 298 Posted June 21, 2016 I think with the case of Electronic keyboards ?you can sustain a note better. I don't know. ...I could ?never figure it out. Billy Joel is fine. Almost everything he has written went Gold over the years. I remember that he dominated American music for a time. Every other song on the radio was his. More partial to his Rock stuff, I suppose my favorite slow song of his was "New York State of Mind". Keep practicing - you will get it! 0 Ego Sum Re Historica Meritissimus https://www.stronghold-nation.com/history/quiz https://www.stronghold-nation.com/history/thru-ages/
Mathew Steel 151 Posted June 21, 2016 I find that also. I find everything flows much smoother! I think he's absolutely brilliant. I'm a huge fan! 0 "Gofyn wyf am galon hapus, calon onest, calon l?n."
Charles of Tours 69 Posted July 2, 2016 I took some violin lessons as a kid, but my instructor became pregnant so they stopped. Since then, I've dabbled with the keyboard / piano (and still do once a blue moon), and I keep a guitar in my closet. :P I can sing quite well, and up until last year or so I was in a show choir. Had to stop because I wasn't fond of all the pomp and theatre-people drama, plus how much it chewed out of my schedule. 0 Do you crave a life of adventure? Strife 23 Posted July 8, 2016 I'm big into alternative rock, like Matchbox 20 and Blink 182. I'll listen to a lot of music except rap, though. I taught myself piano growing up, and have been trying to learn some Chopin pieces lately. I made some progress with Polonaise in A-flat major, op 53 here. The quality is pretty low though, and my phone was set on the piano, so it's pretty bumpy. It's been about 10 months since I started this piece and I've been learning it on and off. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to read sheet music since I was 12, so I use Synthesia now.
Mathew Steel 151 Posted July 8, 2016 It doesn't matter how you learn to play different songs. As long as you can play :) Of course, being able to pick up a sheet and play it perfectly is amazing. But it isn't something that many can do! An update from me, I've finished learning "She's Always a Woman" and it's absolutely amazing. I'm currently learning "Somebody Else" by The 1975. It's a quieter version. Not so upbeat. It's slower and sadder to an extent. If you haven't heard the song, you should give it a listen! 0 "Gofyn wyf am galon hapus, calon onest, calon l?n." Mathew Steel 151 Posted December 2, 2016 It doesn't always get the recognition it deserves, but a trumpet is one hell of a difficult instrument to play! I applaud you on being able to play it :D I can currently play 7 songs without the sheets, which is good enough for me right now. I'm happy playing little melodies that I make up on the spot. Grades aren't really my thing but I can appreciate those that put in the effort! 0 "Gofyn wyf am galon hapus, calon onest, calon l?n."
