Dear Tokamaps, youre work is simply amazing, I am astonished by your discoveries. Say, has Firefly already invited you to be their map creator??

I am looking forward for all the rest tutorials, but especially the #2 bridge design, working rock defences and hidden tunnel entrance!

Keep it up, Tokamaps, you are amazing!

I've been very busy over the last few months and I've hardly had enough time for checking forum posts. I've had the whole interface of the website to re-code, the forum to update and 52 weeks of Stronghold to plan. And on top of that I have commitments offline which take up time.

I also have to redesign the interface over at Panther Forum: https://www.pantherforum.org which I still haven't had time to do yet.

I'm going to take a good two week or so break over Christmas and I'll try to get some articles up I promised. :)

The next Tutorial is here, and it is simply about building bridges with wooden Platforms.

Before i do the Tutorial, i need to announce i have get to know a lot more tricks, too-with-the-save-to-map-trick :)

Tutorial:

Step 1:

Design the area arround the future bridge (the canyon should be at least have a depth of one height...

Stronghold2%2B2015-12-20%2B10-46-40-01.png

... And fill the area of your future bridge with terrain which should be one level deeper than the ending area of your bridge...

Stronghold2%2B2015-12-20%2B10-46-40-01.png

...and press the back button in the terrain menu.

Stronghold2%2B2015-12-20%2B10-46-53-56.png

Step 2:

Place your Wooden bridge in the air and place water over the closest tiles of the bridge all arround it...

Stronghold2%2B2015-12-20%2B10-46-58-81.png

Stronghold2%2B2015-12-20%2B10-47-36-10.png

Note: Before you do the next step just do something unnessesery (i hope i had spelled right) with the terrain.

Stronghold2%2B2015-12-20%2B10-48-00-79.png

... and delete it again.

Have fun and enjoy

I agree with Crusader1307 at this one.

I have only one question though... Do AI lords troops try to destroy the bridge? In Crusader 1 they would try that, even when the building belongs to a neutral player that isn't in the game at all (8th player on 7 player map for example). I ask this just our of curiosity. Thanks for this nice tutorial. :)

I had Problems by getting ai troops attacking over that bridge, while it belonged to me.

By making it neutral it works fine.

No they arent going to destroy them!

But ai is destroying wooden walls, which arent yours, if they want to reach you!

I certainly agree with you. Well, we all wanted larger maps, also what's next: it's logical that more land means more power, but if there weren't estates there wouldn't be any point in exploiting resources far from our castle.

The only thing that's mission is unit collision, and they didn't bring that even to newest Stronghold games. :( But oh well, we can survive without that... Only we are forced to have field battles when fighting in multiplayer, and it would be way more fun if we had this unit collision. On the other hand, then they would need to rebalance troops - stronger troops would get more advantage as those weaker would be attacking them few by few - it wouldn't be possible for hundred spearmen to attack a knight at once. I only believe that field battles would be more exciting this way. :)

That's a very clever effect! I'll have to try that out tomorrow when I'm marking the 52 weeks entries, and write up that article for it :D

By the way, I believe this topic should be made sticky, or perhaps merged with Mathew's topic, and renamed into Stronghold 2 map editor tricks, or something like that. It would be pity if at one point it went away on the second page or something like that, it should be visible, it's a real treasure for those who want to put those interesting stuff into their maps, but don't know how. :)

Also, I'm looking for an article or a forum posts about making those stone bridges between cliffs - when a bridge is under another bridge. :)

EDIT: http://www.stronghold-nation.com/article/65-bridges-over-canyons

I have found it. :)

Oh... Would your way also include cropping the map? If it would then it wouldn't help me with the map I'm currently working on. :( I later realized. that. It's not just that I have already started the map, but with positions of those four bridges I wanted to add would be impossible to do the task. Maybe only if I decided to build two high bridges, and the other two to replace with simple crossing across the river.

Well, you can show me, but only if it wouldn't take to much of your time. :) The thing is that I would like to add at least two bridges like that into my map (preferably four), but I don't know if that is possible. The way I saw it in the article if one wants to build those bridges he needs to know where he wants to put them before actually making the map. In my case I would like to build those bridges around an island - to the north, south, west and east, while a compromise would be building those only in east and west.

Tutorial for HIGH BRIDGES

After coming here for help with the high bridges, and after Tokamaps showed me how to build them, I decided that least thing I could do is to make a short tutorial for others about how to do it. The reason I call those high bridges only, and not canyon bridges, is that this is only for "one layer bridge", it's not actually a canyon bridge, but it is simpler to accomplish - the method is pretty fast and simple, and it doesn't involve cropping the map. Another thing is that this works with version 1.4.1, while this trick works with version 1.3.1.

1. place smallest level cliffs and place a river between if you want to have a river below the bridge, as you won't be able to place it later.

screen98.jpg

2. place descents from those cliffs one against another on exact same place where you want to have your bridge.

screen100.jpg

3. connect the two cliffs over the two descents you previously placed. For this you will need to have the option to place elevation over water areas set. You can see it in the right side of the panel.

screen101.jpg

4. hit the undo button, so that this connection disappears.

screen102.jpg

5. place the bridge from one cliff to another over the connection you just removed by undo button.

screen103.jpg

That's it, there's nothing more you need to do, you have the high bridge.

screen104.jpg

There is only one issue with those bridges, but it is an issue with high bridges in general. If you send large group of troops on the bridge, they will go below the bridge too as it is shown on the following picture. Of course, you won't notice this if you just send your troops to cross over the bridge, or if you don't send large number of troops like this. Naturally, you would most likely send troops before or after the bridge, and you would rarely notice it. Also, AI lords can leave some of their troops under the bridge, but I don't mind about that.

screen105.jpg

PS. I am also sharing the smaller screenshots (40% from there, they are in the attachment) in case Lord Chris would want to make an article from this.

Once again, this is tutorial by @Tokamaps, I only wrote it and made the pictures.
