New map: Ocean Bay

Recommended Posts

Hello, I started to work on a new map. It's still early version and textures, resources, etc are missing. I just wanted to know what you think so far.

The map is on extra large and should hold up to 6 players. I plan to make it oasis like, so much greenland and beach textures. Also enough wood but no iron and maybe no stone.

The map side crossing is possible at the rifght way or three ways over the river.

I like the mountains and the idea of the map so far. Of course there isn't much I can say as we've only been provided with 1 screenshot, but I'm sure there will be more to come :)

This is a really good map, @Micha!. Everything about it yells "great action map".

Best of luck :)

Looks like an interesting map, I like water, the sea has a nice look to it, I have a new map that has an inlet and I sunk some deep troughs into it and put in a custom dock with the ship, I'm liking the editor more every day, my new "Jungle Fever" map has the new water fall in it, you have to play with it to make it look good but hey we have water falls.

Keep up the good work on those maps.

Nice map, Micha!

Interesting thought to make it without stone resource. That means the castles will have more of a village or fort character with wooden palisades instead of big walls. Will you make stone a buyable item, or no stone at all?

I also like the way you have placed the 3 keeps for each side. In a 3v3 this makes the roles quite clear. One lord will have to defend the mountain pass, one lord the river crossing and the lord in the middle will have a supporting role - or perhaps be the one who has to build up the attacking army.

This should be fun to play.

I worked on the map today. I think the greenland doesn't look to real right now but I'm on a good way. :)

The mapname will be "Ocean Bay".

Looking good Micha! I like the pier on the right side of the island, also the trees near the mountain is a nice little touch.

If you don't know how else to make the map look more "realistic" if you'd like, here are some tips:

Feather oasis-placing a border of feathers around a solid oasis can easily make it look more alive

Stones-if parts of the island look bare and plain, lowering the brush intensity and scattering stones around the land bring out different textures in the land

Brush Intensity-like stated above, brush intensity is useful and experimenting with it can do various things to your map

Good luck with the rest of the map, looking forward to some more updates :)

There are some desert maps on a game I have installed on my PC at the moment; Empires Dawn of the Modern World. Would you like to me take a few screenshots and post them here for inspiration/ideas?

I want the resources out of the fraction area. So I can't place more grass. The stone is between two fractions and no iron on the map. Furthermore, I want it to be flat so I can't place hills on the main ways. I think I will take a look on original maps to get some more ideas to let it look more real.

By stone I didn't mean the resource, I meant the land textures, it might be called rocks if I'm mistaken, my apologies.

I like that waterfall a lot, I think it looks really impressive. Could I/you upload it to our gallery? :)

I believe the map is nearly finished. I just need some more testers :)

I added the homepage name to the description. This may help to get some more users here.

Two more screenshots :)

I'll help test it sometime. Would this be via a multiplayer game or single player?

I added you on steam. It would be nice to get some more feedback from some people, while I want it not to get spread to others/multiplayer. So it wont happen that different map versions are spread.

Alright, I think the map is ready to be released. I will upload it tomorrow as a christmas present to the community :)

Thanks everyone for the feedback and especially Mathew Steel for helping me on "realistic" looking part.

I will participate with this map on the mapping competition. Maybe it will win ^^

Glad I could help, although I didn't have to change much as you did a great job yourself! Well done!

I will have to give you some competition, I have a war scenario I have been working on for a few weeks now, it has a nice custom dock with the ship and a village compound and an enemy castle to take down, there will be lots to do on this map, I'm in the middle of scripting.

And here it is on the site too ;)

There is no way to currently feature a file, and it will take quite some time to work out too. But I've featured this topic, it will now appear on the homepage for a while.

Thank you!
