Hi, I'm New, I Need Some Help With What to do Next

Recommended Posts

Hey, so my boyfriend got me into playing Stronghold Crusader and I loved it.  Then he showed me SCE HD, and I bought the games on steam.  After playing through all the single player maps like 20 times, I'm bored and went looking for some more maps to download.  First off, Im a win 7 geek, and have Win10.  I have NO idea where maps go, how to differentiate between all this lingo I'm seeing, (apparently there are a bunch of games I just became aware of?)  Anyways, so can anyone please tell me what I should do next?  I opened SC3 (the 3D looking game with boxed areas to build in and I don't like being boxed in when building stuff), so I like the SC and SCE because I can build anywhere,  But, I don't think Im good enough to MP, and I wouldn't even know how.  So can you guy link me some download areas for new maps to play?  Or give me some advice on what I should do now?  I dont have a map builder in EXTREME, but I have on in the first game, and I suck at building maps.  Maybe you could give me some guidelines on how to build a map?  I'm just really tired of playing through the same campaigns over and over, and I love this game.  Thanks for your time!  Do you guys use discord?  Should I join a discord channel?  My turtle beach headset is packed somewhere so I'd have to buy a new headset, I think it's broken.  Plus it hurts my ears.  I need a tiny little headset like operators wear in a call center.  Any suggestions or links to a good headset that doesn't hurt?  No my ears aren't big.  I have tiny elf ears, but the soft material on my turtle beach hurts like hell.  And unless Im transcribing something or working, I see no reason for such a headset.  Thanks!!

Welcome to the Nation @rubydragon! So you've definitely come to the right place and hopefully we can help you 🙂

Maps for all of the Stronghold games typically go into the My Documents/*game*/maps folder. When you create new files via the Editors, they're placed in the correct folder for whatever game you're playing. When you download maps from a community like ours, they will be downloaded to your downloads folder. From there, you extract the .zip archive, and copy/paste in whatever map you downloaded into the above folder. I might do an article on this actually for new players, so thanks for pointing this out to me.

We have a download section on our site which has a lot of user-generated maps, mods and other content for all the Stronghold games - you can take a look here and download some files if you'd like. And if you ever do create any of your own - feel free to upload whatever you want to our downloads section as well! 🙂

I wouldn't be too tough on yourself regarding the Editor. It takes a lot of practice, but, it is a skill which anybody can master with enough time. I used to be really bad at the terrain painting, but I eventually started to get the hang of it, although it's still not my strongest point.

In regards to how you use the editor, it really depends on which game you're talking about here.. we do have articles showing you how to use the editors of almost all games I think, but I'd need to know exactly which game you're using to be able to point you to the correct one(s). We also have a lot of articles on scenario design, map scripting and virtually all aspects of creating your own maps too, so don't worry about that either.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Hi, Ruby, there are tons of interesting maps for Stronghold Crusader. Now, you mentioned you like Stronghold Crusader Extreme, but if I'm not mistaken, even maps for Stronghold Crusader work for Stronghold Crusader Extreme. You would just need to copy those maps from the Maps folder into MapsExtreme.

There is an option to build your own SHC-E maps, although I think it would be better for start to use maps made by others, and perhaps modify them a little bit. Custom Scenarios -> New Maps.

As for multiplayer, no worries about that, you can even play against the computer in multiplayer games. Although that way it is mostly interesting only when playing with friends, and not with random people at GameRanger. And by "with friends" I mean with you boyfriend for example, or with us. 😄 Or all together!

If you need any help, do ask! And my usual advice is to try making things harder for yourself. First you give yourself more resources and in the beginning and more resources around your castle, and later you will be able to give the computer lords greater and greater advantage. Strangely, even late in the game, computer lords fight much better when then start with more gold, for example! Sure, it does make sense to some extent, but I would expect it to catch up at some moment, but it doesn't, it would never attack as hard as if he had started with more gold in the beginning.

Thanks guys!  I accidentally found the map builder for Extreme.  You go in to custom, esc, go back in and poof there's a map builder.  I made one, then played it.  It's fun and has a ton of stuff on it, but it isn't super hard or boring.  It's kinda in the middle, although I think you can tell a newbie made it.  Let me know if you like my first one.  It's def not a typical builder map.  You can tell a newb made it because of the placement of my own automatic barracks and arab tent.  Just move all your garbage to the center if you don't use it.  😛

I downloaded a SC 2 map and put it in Extreme and got no new map.  But the map I made is there.  Also, I thought I'd give MP a shot with someone kind enough to play a noob and not decimate me right off rip.  How do I play one of you guys?

I apologize, it might be the case that we misunderstood each other in the other thread. You should be able to put a Stronghold Crusader map into the Stronghold Crusader Extreme maps folder, and it should be available to play. However, Stronghold Crusader 2 maps are not compatible with Stronghold Crusader Extreme, those games are too much different.

I hope this helps?

What I wanted to say that time earlier is that you should be able to use tons of Stronghold Crusader maps in Stronghold Crusader Extreme. Because there are much fewer Stronghold Crusader Extreme maps out there than the Stronghold Crusader maps.

I've moved this topic to the Stronghold Crusader forum for you & merged it with your new one @rubydragon 🙂

My PC is currently in for repaid but I've heard it's coming back so I'll try out your map when it comes back!

Thanks Chris! That needed to be done.

I tried it now, looks good!

What I would suggest though would be to leave more clear space around stone keeps. This way computer lords would have more space around themselves to build their castles. Of course, some of them tend to build huge castles, but it is enough to leave at least a little bit free space for those smaller castles.

Another thing. What might be a downside of Extreme is that, if you put those posts around the map for different players, it seems somewhat bad that this way the player doesn't have to rely on their economy. Maybe it would be more interesting to you if you played it without those posts?🙂 This way you would notice more easily that AI lords are actually crippled on maps where they can't fully build their castles, or where they don't have enough resources around their positions to develop and to send powerful attacks against your castle. Those posts compensate it, but imagine how much more fun it would be if the AI lords were able to build everything they need while having their troops from the posts as well.😉

By the way, would that be helpful for you to see a tutorial of how to start your economy in Crusader? How are you doing in general? People having enough food, and you have enough gold and weapons to train more troops? Although the best might be to simply play with others who would be willing to show you. That being said, I indeed don't know, maybe you are already great in those things, but I just wanted to offer.🙂

To play a mutliplayer game with Crusader, you would need GameRanger. Download it, install it, log in (and create an account if you haven't done it before), and you would be able to play with others. I left some of the details out, but it's simple.

And everybody who wants to play together with you would have to have the same version of the game as you.

We could see to organize a gaming event at Stronghold Nation.🙂 I should be able to play this weekend. How are others doing doing weekend?🙂

I can't make this weekend unfortunately, but I may be able to do something next weekend possibly. I'd be up for a game at some point.

Hi everyone! I'm working on a project where I want to modify the graphics of Stronghold Crusader. My goal is to create an entirely new themed game using the existing game's framework, where I’ll redesign everything from buildings and units to the main menu and in-game text. However, I’ve run into some issues with the tools I've tried, and I’m looking for suggestions on what programs I could use and if there are any specialized tools for this. Programs I’ve tried: Drago
