Adventure #01 - A Duke in Distress
Mathew Steel replied to Charles of Tours's topic in Adventures in the Duchy of Riverbourne
"Charles, a word!" called Sir Lloyd. Sir Loring steadily walked over to Sir Lloyd after making acquaintances with the merchant. "What is it?" he asked. The group stood within listening-distance. "I feel that we'd be better off not meeting the locals. With an army and a bit of gold, you can bribe anyone to gain information." "What do you propose?" Sir Loring asked. Sir Lloyd thought, looked at the merchant, then walked over. "Thank you for the information good sir, and may you be successful with your business" upon giving the man a few bronze coins, Sir Lloyd returned to the group. "Let us be off men!" The group climbed into the wagon. "We head here" said Lloyd, pointing to a small village on the map. "I have a few friends there, who may be willing to aid us on this adventure." -

Adventure #01 - A Duke in Distress
Mathew Steel replied to Charles of Tours's topic in Adventures in the Duchy of Riverbourne
"If you look on this map, we can follow the route using the wagon to arrive at the Duke's castle much sooner than we anticipated." Sir Lloyd paused a few seconds. "Then we can enter through the back, less defended part of the castle. Using a distraction to keep the guards at the front away from us...perhaps a group of men who aren't too happy about the high taxes." -
When looking for another GPU and CPU...
Mathew Steel replied to EaglePrince's topic in Computer Support
The short answer yes. The main factor is the motherboard, although it's not the only factor. The CPU socket is one thing to consider, are they compatible? Also, PCI x1, PCI x16 and PCI x16 Express slots, most modern GPU's use an Express slot, whereas some older ones use a PCI x1 slot (unlikely your motherboard is that old :P). Another thing you need to consider would be power usage. For a CPU, the socket has to be compatible, also you may need to look into chipset support. Different GPU's and CPU's require a certain amount of power, and most PC's should have 200watts spare to what they should require, simply because measuring power usage isn't completely accurate. Here are some links you may find useful! :) http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/pc-components/3588810/how-know-if-graphics-card-is-compatible/ http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/284127-28-want-compatible-computer I couldn't explain this to you any better than this link: http://create.pro/blog/need-lots-cores-faster-cpu-clock-speed-cores-ghz-multi-threading-hyper-threading-explained/ Anymore questions, let me know :) -
The invasion troops remain in the castle of whichever AI is present. I tried using a different AI to invade, they just stand still. Vetka and others have had the same issue.
-
Crusader 2. The invasion thing isn't a bug, it's just a bad decision made by Firefly by the looks of things. Basically, if AI territories are present on the map, the invasions don't work correctly.
-
I was finishing a map yesterday. I decided to change it to kingmaker since the invasions don't work correctly. It wasn't long before I realised removing walls wouldn't work. I messaged in hope that he'd know a way to remove them, since he's made great maps in the past. He too noticed removing walls just wasn't accomplishable. A quick google search led me to believe this was a map editor bug. If anyone is also having this problem, please reply so I know it isn't just a coincidence. Thank you! :)

I added scripts to the AI to make them move and behave differently based on the situation :) That's awesome! Hats off *waits for hats off emoji* :D

Adventure #01 - A Duke in Distress
Mathew Steel replied to Charles of Tours's topic in Adventures in the Duchy of Riverbourne
The group paused and thought. Then Sir Lloyd spoke, "what if we were to attack sooner than they thought?" the group looked at Sir Lloyd confused. "Think about it. Julian himself said they're aware that we're coming. They'd be expecting us to wait it out, wait for them to lower their guard, what if we did the opposite? Attacked before they get a chance to even raise their swords, not wait for them to be sheathed." Still, the group looked at Lloyd as if he were mad. "If you will allow me to explain, I've been working on a plan." -
Thank you @Crusader1307 I really appreciate the feedback. It's difficult to get any sort of comment on my content due to being a very small channel. It's nice knowing what's good and what's not! :) Is that a literal sentence or was it relating to something else? Were you part of the military?

I never did get any feedback on the video, perhaps I should've asked :P what do you guys think? Does the music fit in with the theme well? Let me know :)

Streaming SHN gaming events
Mathew Steel replied to EaglePrince's topic in Site Questions and Support
This all seems like a good idea but one thing comes to mind. What about 4v4 matches? It's unlikely you'll get a 4v4 because it's not common to have that many players available from SHN at one time, but if on one rare occasion it happens, what then? :P -
I just sent my final reply to Rockstar support, not sure if it is too harsh, but frankly, something needed to be said. "Sadly, none of these links managed to solve my problem. Personally I find it ridiculous that it's Rockstar's game causing memory leaks, yet there is no advice you can offer me. Never have I had so many problems with one game, I don't understand why a game is released when it hasn't been tested on a single laptop. I have spent ?35 pound on this game to be able to play it, not to try and fix it for you. In no way am I saying this is your fault specifically, as you aren't a developer of the game, and you have tried to assist me with these problems. Overall, I'm disappointed with the launch of the game and I hope the developers are too." What do you guys think? :S Those were the days, although I wasn't old enough to understand this would happen, I certainly know it happened when I was very young. When a couple of teenagers could make a game with a laptop and some spare time. Indeed, I personally don't use mods for Skyrim (I just never found one that appealed to me) but I can agree that the idea of paid mods is ridiculous. Not only does it allow anyone to make a quick bit of dosh, but it seems to be allowing duplicate mods, where members have downloaded a mod, then re-uploaded it for a price. It's driving me insane and it's pushing me even further away from wanting to mod my game! Again, couldn't agree more. Games such as Call of Duty for example, it's the same game over and over again, just a different trailer. Also, I feel that labels and brands are something that encourages duplicate games. If you can make a good selling game, (Call of Duty: Black Ops for example) then you can create the same thing again with a different campaign and one new edition to multiplayer, people will buy it, because it's a Call of Duty game. I'm not saying the COD franchise it bad for everyone, just personally, I stopped buying Call of Duty after Ghosts because I saw the next few games would be more or less identical, which to me, they are. Glad you think so, hopefully they'll stop counting their dollars and start counting the problems, then get to work on fixing them. P.S. I started editing this post before you posted, that's why everything is in the same post :P feel free to merge it into a separate reply :D

That's an interesting fact. I'll keep it in mind next time, thanks! :D

I personally won't be using SLI or Crossfire. I purchased the PC with a single GTX 960, for now it will do just fine. I will only be upgrading my GPU as games advance and require more demanding hardware, but I appreciate your knowledge and input. Thank you! :)

While in some cases I agree with this, I feel that it's too often used as an excuse to bad games. For example Watchdogs, the game was delayed so they had more time to develop it. Also, Ubisoft have money falling from their hair, so again, I doubt it was a money issue. I agree (and did point out :P) that Firefly aren't one of the companies to follow the new norm for game development. I feel that Firefly put a lot more effort into fixing things than most companies do, maybe because of the lack of members of the community so less complaints, regardless, they're a step-up.

Technology Today and Yesterday(s)
Mathew Steel replied to Mathew Steel's topic in The Open Castle Inn
Well the point you made is quite interesting. Theoretically, no, one does not have to sing it. You can, again I am speaking theoretically here, hum the melody for the app to find the correct song. Now practicality is an issue. Unless you have some amazing gift where your voice can sound identical to a piano or a guitar for example, then reaching the exact same frequency, or in this case pitch, (and so narrowing the search) is rather difficult. I have had luck in the past finding the song I wanted through singing a small part of it, but again, it's a lot harder :D -
Really appreciate it, thanks Chris! :) Completely agree with you. Not all game developers are lazy, games as Skyrim have been pointed out as "horrible buggy games" whereas, I personally, think the TES (The Elder Scrolls) series is amazing. Sure there are some bugs, but nothing major, and any bugs reported have easy fixes to them. In fact, the Stronghold series has some bugs yes, but they do not make the game unplayable or unenjoyably. I've never found myself angrily googling answers or fixes to any of the bugs I find in these games (which are very little either way).

Technology Today and Yesterday(s)

TODAYS TECHNOLOGY How "Shazam" works! Shazam is a really useful application I commonly use on my iPhone. It's purpose is for users to discover the titles of music they don't know. I actually used the application to find the song I posted in another topic. It really helped me out, I'm sure a few of you have used it to. So, how does an application, hear and recognize a song? Shazam uses a smartphone or a PCs built-in microphone to gather a brief sample of audio being played. It creates an acoustic fingerprint based on the sample, and compares it against a central database for a match. If it finds a match, it sends information such as the artist, song title, and album back to the user. It builds a fingerprint for a song as a hash table, the key is frequency. When Shazam receives a fingerprint, it uses the first key and it searches for all matching songs. Then it moves onto the next key, shortening the results, it continues to do this until it finds an exact match. Then Shazam! You get the song title. -
It's come to my attention recently that the way games are developed and designed is changing. With GTA V finally being released for PC, it's brought a lot of unhappy customers, including myself with it. Straight from launch people experienced poor performance issues on computers that were well above the recommended specifications. Memory leaks, crashing, corrupted downloads, lost accounts, missing content and that's just to name a few. On top of all that, in-game comes plenty of bugs and glitches to really spoil your day. AI not being in the correct locations, houses appearing all white and more. Of course, GTA V isn't the only one. The highly anticipated Watchdogs was released late last year. The console versions ran okay, a few bugs here and there, but nothing to spoil the game. Then the PC version. Again, performance issues were a huge problem, especially for those running AMD graphics cards. Assassins Creed fans were completely appalled by the launch of the new game in the series, Unity. PC versions of the games were commonly rendered useless with all the bugs and graphical glitches within the game. AI floating mid-air, missing body parts, running on the spot, limbs stretched across your screen, just to name a few. Even Battlefield 4 had a bad case of constant crashing. With player stating, "Battlefield 4 crashes more than me piloting a helicopter." Now, I ask myself. Why? Why have game developers become so lazy to release broken games? Especially when they have several occasions to release a Beta version of the game, to allow players to locate and report bugs back to the developers to fix. When I first started getting into gaming, I noticed no bugs with the games I played, Ratchet and Clank, a favourite to the players of the PS2, also Crash Bandicoot, another favourite. Sure the games had graphical glitches, but compared to what we have today, they were miniscule issues. To a point, I can deal with bugs. I'm not too na?ve to realise that with new technology, comes new problems, but at the same time, that isn't our issue, is it? As customers to these companies we pay for games that we can play. Games we can enjoy and finish and think, "I'm sad to have finished this game" and not "I better not come across a game as buggy as that again!" Right now, it's like going to a shop, paying for bananas which are covered, taking them home, opening them and seeing that they're bruised and black. It wouldn't be acceptable. Shops would lose business. So why is it acceptable for games to be released in the state of a battered banana? This may have come across as a rant, which it partly was, but I feel like the information I gave was valid. The main point, was to make you all think, before you spend ?30-?50 on a brand new game. Best regards, Tom

Adventure #01 - A Duke in Distress

"Men, look!" whispered Sir Lloyd, nodding his head in the direction of the doors. "Why has he decided to leave in such a hurry?" Sir Lloyd and the others knew they had to leave now! If not, they risked compromising their disguises and the mission. Upon placing a few bronze coins on the table, Sir Lloyd shouts to the inn keeper "thank you for having us good sir!" The group stood up and made haste for the door. Trying to remain subtle was difficult given the current situation. "Where did he go?" asked Sir Lloyd. -
Yes, the GTX 970 is a great graphics card. Sadly I couldn't find a PC with that card, within my budget. I hope to upgrade to the GTX 970 in a few years time though :) Really for me, I just want to be able to play all games at 60FPS in the resolution, 1920 x 1280. Any high graphic settings are a bonus, of course I would love to be able to play all games at high, and keep that resolution and stay at 60FPS. I tend to disable all the AA & PP settings because they don't really make much difference in my opinion, other than lower your FPS.

I myself have never played Kingdoms. Chris explained it to me a little in a lobby as we waited to play a match. It appealed to me. So if I needed to find video tutorials, I personally would like to see in-depth videos on more or less each key factor within the game. Not the basic things that most players could pick up, but the things players may not know. Hopefully this helps somewhat :)

Glad to hear that Chris :) - http://youtu.be/4gzfzUoaZcU As for David's links, thank you very much! I'll be sure to use some of their music in my next cinematics :D

It's actually very simple. With the advancement of technology, you can now get a router and modem built into one box. I'm assuming this is what you have. Glad the post helped you somewhat :)
