Just voted on one of the polls on the homepage and the text changed to the following: The constant PANTHER_ROOT must be defined and point to a valid Panther installation root directory. Thought I'd let you know :) EDIT: Actually the same came up when trying to submit a file. It must be some navigation error. Also, I can't change the title name, not sure if I'm meant to be able to or not.

When looking for another GPU and CPU...
Mathew Steel replied to EaglePrince's topic in Computer Support
I agree, you'd most likely realise you have an SSD just from your PC's performance but since it's old, it's unlikely anyway. You can get low GB SSD's that wouldn't be the way to identify it :) although you said hard disk (Hard Disk Drive), which isn't a SSD (Solid State Drive). -

Indeed Sir David. I'm currently using a laptop so I needed to purchase a TB SSD (since my laptop only supports one hard disk). As soon as I started it up I could use it, whereas before I'd have to wait 3-4 minutes for it to be fully functional. Not to mention loading times in games are drastically reduced (although it may not be relevant to your use for the PC :P) -
Adventure #01 - A Duke in Distress
Mathew Steel replied to Charles of Tours's topic in Adventures in the Duchy of Riverbourne
"Sir Loring is correct. I'm sure these men will believe anything anyone tells them. Although let's not rush, it's a lot easier to train them while we have the Commander on our side and then to try and turn them against him. Last thing we need when training is to have to watch our backs every couple of seconds. Say, what if we were to bribe some local heralds? Not to speak ill of this Commander but to speak good of our cause, while keeping our true identity anonymous." -

"I think we'll continue with this tomorrow. Uhh, good job for now" Sir Lloyd said, then whispering "you'd be lucky to hit sand in a desert." Sir Lloyd joined Loring and Goodman, greeting them with "Any luck training them with you two? You'd swear they'd never seen a bow in their life!" -

As Goodman entered he saw the group sitting down calmly, while Sir Lloyd remained striding back and forth impatiently. It was obvious by his shaking that he was feeling frustrated. He looked up at the door. "Goodman finally! Where have you been? It wouldn't have been much longer until I started kicking this door down until or break every bone trying!" -

Oh how rude of me, I hadn't even noticed. Congratulations @Nigel on the promotion. Well earned! :)

I realise this post has been inactive for quite some time now but I thought it would be good to let you know. My friends have all bought their PC's from amazon through trusted companies and sellers such as ADMI. I too decided to follow this trend and recently spent ?500 on my new PC which I'll be getting for my birthday :D. Now this is still quite a lot for a PC but there are still a lot of computers there which are considered "low end gaming PC's" for a price range of ?200 (which according to google is 33560.72 Serbian dinar, I'm assuming that's the correct currency :P). Even if you don't wish to spend that much money, there's nothing wrong with going under that budget and upgrading the parts from there, since the motherboard etc will be more modern. Most people tend to advise against this. Although those people can be ignorant, in the way that, they built their PC so they force you to do the same, whereas you may not want to. Good luck :) -
Technology Today and Yesterday(s)
Mathew Steel replied to Mathew Steel's topic in The Open Castle Inn
TODAYS TECHNOLOGY Effective Power While it's important to look at the advancement of technology and it's successes, it's important to note that we can learn a lot from technologies faults, bugs and glitches. Recently, a bug with Apple's iOS 6 has been discovered. A text can be sent to iPhone users which will cause the phone to crash (if using iOS 6 or newer) as it displays the notification. Now this only works when the notification shows as a banner, meaning the user must unlock the phone for it to crash. Also, it doesn't always work, although the majority of the time it does. The text itself contains a certain sequence of Arabic characters that cause the phone to crash when displaying it as a banner. There have been a few theories to why the phone crashes while displaying the text but I feel the one I'm about to explain is the most accurate. Here's the link to the video explaining why the phone crashes - Now if you don't have enough time or your broadband isn't the best, or simply you'd rather read this theory. I will continue to explain what Tom's theory is. The theory: Any iPhone users will know that when receiving a text notification, the iOS will display the text in the banner (unless you change your settings). You may also know that if the text is too long to display the whole thing in the banner, it will shorten it. Now luckily Apple are clever, they code the iOS to shorten the text based off the screen size and the characters not by bytes. For example, if I sent a text containing "Hello world" the banner would have enough room to display the whole text, whereas if I sent a text containing "Hello world thank you for reading my post" it would be shortened to something similar to "Hello world thank..." again, this will change depending on the screen size. Arabic characters are of course different to those of English. Some Arabic characters become longer as they connect to another letter, they change from one byte to two, yet still remain one character. The iOS doesn't understand this and so as it tries to display the sample text it simply can't understand how to shorten it and hence it crashes. Please remember, this isn't a fact, this is simply a theory, an idea. Perhaps Apple will reveal the truth after fixing the bug, but really, I can't see that happening. -
Haven't seen a topic for this so I thought creating one would benefit a lot of us. Many of us own copies of the Stronghold franchise on Steam, meaning for Stronghold Crusader 2, the Steam workshop is available. If you use and upload to the Steam workshop feel free to post your username below. This way we can communicate through Steam as well as Stronghold Nation and possibly attract some more attention to the forums and our download section, since Steam allow users to advertise their websites (if game-related) in the workshop etc it's a nice and easy way to do so :D Allow me to begin, my Steam username is: K0MP4CT Be sure to add yours in the reply :)

I thought of this yesterday after reading your post. I thought we could get a small symbol next to where it says "Logged in as Mathew Steel" for example, it could be an envelope with a pigeon above it (just to keep the medieval theme :D) that when we receive a new notification (messages, subscribed topic post, download section activity) a number would appear next to it. We then click this and a drop down box appears. Similar to that of Steam. What do you think?

Your opinion about the download comment system
Mathew Steel replied to Lord_Chris's topic in Site Questions and Support
Personally I like the comment system. For me, it's a neat and easy way of receiving feedback on my projects. Although I do tend to create forum topics for my maps, it's not a very convenient way of getting feedback as the replies aren't always related to the quality of the map. The Steam workshop has a comment system and people use it very efficiently, even for people who are looking to download the map, it's useful to read other reviews before deciding on whether you will download it or not. -
Way better thank you EaglePrince! :D

Adventure #01 - A Duke in Distress
Mathew Steel replied to Charles of Tours's topic in Adventures in the Duchy of Riverbourne
"That good sir is a hole. It's been there the whole team we have been here" replied Sir Lloyd. The guards gave him a stinking look, to which he stuttered "uh...yes...Goodman." -
The only problem I've had is the new typing system tends to lag a bit (not exactly lag but it's the best way to explain it) through writing this message, I finished 3 seconds before the characters caught up. My PC isn't being pressured by the website at all and my internet speed is more than quick enough (just in case that would be a reason). I do also use IE which as you said will perform slower using this text. Is there any way to fix it? :) Other than that I love it! The new title colours really are appealing and easier on the eye! :D

Adventure #01 - A Duke in Distress

The adventurers sat there, waiting and watching for a few hours. It wasn't long before the fog had cleared and a small ray of light shun through a miniscule crack in the stone wall. The drunk guards above them?had seem to have quietened down also. "Say friends, how old do you reckon these structures are? Would it be fair to say whoever built them would have had to rush them?" the group nodded at Sir Lloyd in agreement. "Meaning, the builders wouldn't have had time to worry about the dirt flooring." Sir Lloyd, finding a decent sized piece of bark on the floor, started digging away at the ground and in a few minutes "I knew it!" he exclaimed in joy. "They haven't covered up the floor below, if we find something to help us, we can just dig straight out, don't suppose any of you carry a shovel with you?" he chuckled. -

"Don't come any closer!" commanded Sir Lloyd. "State yourself!" The group were wary of this new figure. The man was hidden the whole time, nobody knew if he was friend or foe. Could he be working for the enemy? -

Hi all, I understand this thread has been idle for quite some time. This is due to personal life getting on top of me and a lack of stigma to research into things. Recently, I've had some spare time and plan to revive the thread. I won't be posting here on a schedule, I'll be posting if I come across something interesting or have a good idea on what to post, this way I won't be posting any boring topics :) YESTERDAY(S) TECHNOLOGY Random Access Memory (RAM) RAM is commonly referred to as primary memory. It's a computer storage location that allows information to be stored and accessed quickly from random locations on a memory module (hence the name). Since the data is accessed randomly, the computer can access the data much faster than that of a CD or hard drive. If RAM loses power, all data contained in memory is also lost. Do not confuse memory with your hard drive, they store separate things. For example, RAM stores things such as the GUI or applications, whereas a hard drive stores permanent information, such as game saves or word documents. For obvious reasons, one a hard drive naturally has a higher storage capacity than RAM and also, hard drives don't lose information when unpowered. As the computer boots up, parts of the operating system and drivers are loaded into memory, which allows the CPU to process the instructions much faster, hence taking less time before your machine is operational. After the operating system has loaded, each program you open such as the browser you're using to view this page is loaded into memory while it is running. If too many programs are open the computer will swap the data in the memory between the RAM and the hard disk drive. RAM storage also has a capacity. Only a certain amount of memory can be stored on RAM in one PC up-time. For example. My PC has 8GB of RAM. Now, if I were to run a game, open loads of tabs on my web browser, use Skype and keep a word document active, my RAM storage would most likely fill up to 4GB (depending on what game is running and how demanding the other applications are). Although, no need to worry right? If I close the game, my RAM would return to an average storage level, well, by default, it should, but some applications cause memory leaks. Where temporary data which should be removed after the application closes, doesn't get removed. Meaning the RAM stays full, a user cannot manually remove data from RAM (without restarting the PC). If the RAM is full, your PC will attempt to write to the hard disk, which is far slower and of course, data from the hard drive isn't removed by a restart. This will cause a blue screen for Windows users, as the operating system attempts to prevent this from occurring. Over the evolution of computers there has been different variations of RAM used in computer. Some of the more common examples are DIMM, RIMM, SIMM, SO-DIMM, and SOO-RIMM. Below is an example image of a 512MB DIMM computer memory module and what the typical desktop computer memory card will look like. This memory module would be installed into memory slots on the motherboard. -

"Agreed Goodman" replied Sir Lloyd. The wagon began to move. As the night settled, the fog became apparent, it was sure to slow them down on their quest. "Keep your eyes peeled friends. This fog would make great for an unsuspecting wagon."
