Stronghold 2 AI Editor - trying to add troops on added tower
EaglePrince replied to EaglePrince's topic in Stronghold 2
Thanks. Maybe he just doesn't need it at the moment, maybe that is the reason why he doesn't build it, but it still doesn't make sense to me. Of course, he doesn't ne need it, he can recruit troops from siege camp, but still why wouldn't he build it, it's still pretty cheap. 100 gold... Maybe he would bells it at some point during the war. :/ And besides this - he does build it in Doomsword's castle. I could also try changing priority of the building to another value. -

Nothing else has priority 6, only the engineers guild. And no, nothing overlaps. Maybe someone could load the game, and see if the same happens with the original castle file? I am 99% sure that same would happen with original one as well, but I'm not entirely sure. That is correct about the well, it is almost overlapping, but it is just where is was meant to be - next to the position of the guild. -

Right now before I would submit the castles I would like to ask something... Is it normal that William often doesn't build his engineers guild, or is it something that happens only to me only for some reason? When William builds one of Doomsword's castle he would build those, but when he builds his original castle or his original which I edited he just leaves an empty space, and I am unsure if he is going to build the engineers guild at all... I took a look into the castle in the editor, and in original castles it has priority 6, while in Doomsword's versions it has priority 14. Maybe this is no issue in fact, maybe he would build it in some moment, but only he doesn't need that building at the moment. :/ Here are the images of edited castles of William. -

Thanks for your reply. I managed to do this task. Like Doomsword at Stronghold Heaven suggested - the issue was those troop rally points weren't placed at the same time. For some reason it seems that it matters. Also, another thing is that the AI won't send equally many troops on each of those points every time, but one seems to be certain - those towers that are placed first get populated first as well, and those towers get most men. Nice article, thanks for that too. :) I will later submit those two castle I edited - hopefully today. :) -
Hi, I have found Stronghold 2 AI Editor at Heaven Games, and I have downloaded, and I tried using it. http://stronghold2.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=490 There are two Williams castles that needed to be fixed, so I did that - he had problems because of the moat (that was the issue on both castles), so I removed the moat, and he had two towers with doors to outside instead of to inside (that is on one castle), so I deleted those two towers and I put those with correct orientation. Later, to this second one I decided to add two more towers, as from one side he has two round towers, and on the other one only one small gatehouse. The issue is that even though I set the rally point, he sends archers only to the those rally points on the first two towers. Do you have more experience with this tool? Do you know what I could do to make him send troops on all four towers?

If it is not a problem for you to upload the video, you can upload it, and then we can see together how to do those things. :) -

I don't want to bring you more work. :) And of course, if a castle was made of stone in reality, you can still make it wooden if you like, who would care. :) We cannot make everything 100% historically correct. Just don't get me wrong, I only wanted to help. :) And you're welcome. :)

This video is the perfect example of what I had in mind. You can: 1. make those yellow marks on the bar on which one can see the important events, and 2. make the links to each of the events in the description below the video. First way might be aesthetically better, and maybe to someone easier to use and more intuitive, while it gives to the watcher better orientation of where he is in the video, and how close he is to the next important event, but on the other hand, the video is quote long, and it may be harder for someone to pick the exact moment of when that event starts. For that reason the second method could be easier to use. Regarding the second one - you can just right-click a video, and you would be offered "copy video URL at current time". You can do it with any video. EDIT: Well, the good thing is that you know. :D -

I don't know how to do it, but I know people do it after they upload the video. I will first search for an example now to show you what I mean. :) And yes, that would be way simpler than cutting the video, and I agree, it can be such a pain. Especially as when you do it you actually convert the entire video to a shorter one, it's not just as simple as "cutting". :( -
This is a great idea, I'm glad to see a scenario like this being made. :) Still, I would have some corrections, and which would help you make a historically more accurate story. One thing is that we were defending no city in the Battle of Kosovo (which is in German called Schlacht auf dem Amselfeld). That is where we met Ottoman army led by sultan Murat which wanted to make Serbia their vassal. Another unfortunate fact is that we lost that battle :( , but one thing we managed to do was killing their Sultan. Maybe that could be used in a scenario, though it would be more easily made in Stronghold 2 I guess... :) Perhaps that is the only achievement we made there, although it is the most important battle in our folklore. This is a battle in which we stood up against way more powerful enemy, we tried to resist, but we failed, and we Balkan was ruled by Ottomans for five centuries after that battle. Still, that is not completely true, as Serbia finally fell before Ottomans in year 1454, and it is not true that were were under their rule for 500 years, as, although the First Serbian Uprising (1804-1815) failed, soon after it Serbia did gain its independence. Back to the map! :) Another thing is that Pristina is a modern city and it was less significant in that time. Maybe naming the city Novo Brdo would be more interesting, it was a mining city, and it was repelling Ottomans attacks effectively. :) The landscapes look great! :)

Well, at this point it's about lots of gigabites, but I hope he will make it. :) I agree with you, it would be great if it was a little bit shorter, but even if he doesn't make it shorter there are ways to make it more interesting for the viewer. On YouTube one can mark those most important moments of the game - moments before our battles for example. The war lasted pretty long, as once our armies would finish fighting, one of us would retreat and rebuild his attacking army before going on again, while the other one also didn't go forward as he didn't have enough troops for that either. Still, I would add that Tokamaps had chances to attack me and make me some real problems (in moments when I was losing my knights) until I manage to rebuild my troops. My weakness was that I didn't have any estate in a well protected location, but luckily, that didn't cost me my head. :D Still, like I said, I like how everything went, and how the war took that much time, as this way I have learned a lot about troops in Stronghold 2. :) Hmm, also, now I see I totally forgot about this one... :) How effective would be throwing cows on enemy troops? Have you tried that before? I could test it on my computers though, but maybe someone already knows... I wouldn't like to throw cows on troops on open field of course, and that would be from same reason as in Crusader 1 - in reality throwing dead animals used to be effective only when those are thrown into besieged cities, which would lead to break of diseases. I don't see why would something like that happen on open field. Also, fighting with melee units and standard range units such as archers, crossbowmen, ballistae, horse archers is more honorable. Of course, I wouldn't refrain from using them against a castle, that is another story - that is the way "throwing dead animals was meant to be used". I must admit I'm unsure about this matter about throwing animals, maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing to use, but I should first test it. :) -

Damn, that's indeed too much. :D You can use Format Factory to convert the file. It's free and it works really great. That is correct, in my last attempts to kill his lord I was sending tens of my knights, they were in groups of fifty mostly. We had the deal not to use more than 65 knights and more than 25 horse archers. Lots of my men has fallen in Tokamaps castle. -

By the way, Tokamaps was recording the game from yesterday, he is going to upload it. I'm looking forward to see it. It's gonna be four to five hours of fighting though. :) -
Actually, I am better at Stronghold Crusader, but I am exploring Stronghold 2 now as well. :) Yes, that is a similar thing - about apple farms. :)

We fought a great war this evening. We played it on his map again, I was again in south-west, while he was in central position. I was victorious this time, but it was hardly won victory. Tokamaps fought like a lion defending his lord, and he was able to choose good positions for his army to fight. He would choose a position, and he would guard it, and while I was attacking and trying to defeat his troops I was suffering great loses. Luckily for me, I managed to hold the western bank of the river, and I was getting resources from there. We started with 7500 gold as dukes. I right from the beginning bought the village north of my castle. I tried to attack him soon after no rush period ended if I remember correctly (that was four years). I think that I attacked first after he bought the village on the island. After I defeated his troops on the island I moved more forward to get his village on the hill, though that was only not to let him use that village. Next I tried attacking directly his castle, but I failed there, and I retreated. Then I saw I was able to reach his castle from north, so I sent my troops to the north. At that point I sent my swordsmen to take over the village in the north for myself, and I moved on towards his castle. I failed again, he was attacking my troops while they were crossing the bridge, and I had too much loses. I retreated again. Next I started to attack him with trebuchets. He was using the river well in his favor. It took quite a while while I was attacking his castle with trebuchets, and I felt that it leads to nowhere. I started to look for alternative ways to take him down, though all ways to his castle were closed. I tried to attack him again from south with laddermen, and I failed again, I lost my knight then. Fortunately for me, he didn't remove the ladders, and he didn't reclaim his gate, so I was able to train light cavalry. I sent them though his gatehouse and I raided his city and his village which otherwise wouldn't be approachable otherwise. This way I managed to mess up his economy a little. At that time his also moved with his lord outside his castle, and he reclaimed the village on the hill - he held his lord there with knights and other troops as well. I was trying to kill his lord there, but I was failing. Later he moved his lord back to the castle, and I managed to come closer to him, but it took a lot of time until I was able to take down his lord. After five hours for fighting I managed to do that. This was very interesting game to me, and I saw Tokamaps using lots of trick I wouldn't use. We were fighting a lot, so I was able to learn a lot about using different types of troops. Some units showed to be more useful than I was expecting. :) One of those units is cat. I didn't know it protects units so well against ballistae and even against mangonels. I will keep that in mind, although I keep the same opinion about them as about shields in Crusader 1. They seem to be overpowered, and if someone wanted he would be able to send 50 crossbowmen under cats and attack 50 crossbowmen on a large round tower, and I believe those crossbowmen on the tower wouldn't stand a chance. That doesn't make sense to me, but still, if my opponents wasn't to use them, what's stopping me from using them as well. :) -
It's seems that you're pretty good Stronghold Legends player, Wynette. :) I have never player SHL much, I preferred SH2, but those two are similar, so after some time I could give SHL another chance. I also have one question - what you say about building apples... Is that so you would build more apple orchards? I do something like that in Stronghold 2, I manage to place more orchards then in any other way. At least is seems to me like that.

you meant 4 iron estates, but three of them can have only one iron mine. :) -
That's great! :) I also agree that MP is the best with this one, so and if you find some time to make another event with this map, I hope I would be able to join. :) I know that it's something you've already played, but if anyone would like to play it again, I would be up for that.

By the way, I was playing your map again this evening. I believe you said that there are two estates in which one can build two iron mines? I have seen that the middle estate is like that, but I saw no else estate on which more then one iron mines can be built. I have noticed that those where one can build exactly one iron mine are the one is south-west, in west, and on the hill close to sea. Is there any other place where we can build iron mine on the map? -

That's great, I'm glad to hear that. Sure. Do we play the same map, by the way? We could play the same one, if you ask me, but if you have other suggestions we could do other way. Of course, if you want, we could play my map Dolina Odmetnika, though that one is not balanced. -
Well, yes, SHL does have some good stuff which were later kept in newer Stronghold games. For example, market you mentioned - in SHL one can set the market to automatically sell or buy resources. This isn't the case with older Stronghold games, while it is something they kept in Crusader 2. There are siege towers in older Stronghold games too, I also like them, only unfortunately those are not present in Crusader 2 (nor laddermen).

People also visit Stronghold Heaven, though here is the community more active. And regarding you not having time to play - well, yeah, it's same case with us here. :D Only there are some moments when we can meet and play a game together. It's way better more interesting to play with players you know. :) EDIT: I haven't played SHL for a long time, and I haven't been so much into it, I've always liked more SH1, SHC, and SH2 because they are more realistic. On the other hand, few years ago I started to like some stuff with Stronghold 2 more, so maybe I could give SHL another chance. :)
