Stronghold Crusader Extreme; October 19th
Lord Vetka replied to EaglePrince's topic in Gaming Events
It seams like the maps can be used in either SHC 1.2 and Extreme. The reason we play in Extreme is because of the higher troop count and less crashing, it seams to play better. There has been some people over at SH Heaven that say you can make a custom scenario for Extreme but I have not seen it work properly. EaglePrince, looks like the map is not going to work properly after all, I moved the keep a few times and after all of the AIs get built then the last 2 Keeps, 7-8 start to fall apart like the game resources have been used up and now the last 2 Lords are getting the short end of the stick. I haven't tested far enough to see if it changes as the AIs get removed, I will test some more later today. -

Well that's to bad you could not get the dual boot working fully, we hope you can at least install SHC and SHCE for now! I will be making time for Sunday EaglePrince, I did make a change to the map, now the AIs work in that SW corner, I will update the map in the downloads once I am sure the map works properly. Anyone watching this thread, the map is an Extreme map called "Admindle" and is in the downloads. -
"The First Commands" Map Complete
Lord Vetka replied to Mathew Steel's topic in Stronghold Crusader 2
There must be away to make the invasions work properly, you would think the invaders would at least use the ballistas to knock down the walls or at least shoot at the troops on the walls, did you have cats in there as well? I thought the map was fine, the one thing I don't like is when I download a map and find my castle already built for me, I like to build my own castle if I build one at all. Did you try and see how the AI would build on their site instead of building their castles for them? If the invasions worked properly it would be a hard map to play, in testing I made a few changes in the editor, like making it so I could sell apples and buy wood, gave myself a little more gold and a few bows to start. -
"The First Commands" Map Complete
Lord Vetka replied to Mathew Steel's topic in Stronghold Crusader 2
Well I have done some testing and have no successes yet. In the editor I don't see any way of making enemy troops more aggressive, and flag 2 is the target. I did notice you have the color and number of the AIs mixed up, but I doubt if it has any effect on the invasions. The first thing I did was move the flags and where they will attack, in SH2 I found if you give the invasion troops to the invading AI he will use them better than if you script the invasion point, so I set the invasion to come from the enemy castle, but all that happened was the enemy castle was swarming with troops and a siege camp. I also added some troops to the second invasion to see if they would attack when feeling a bit more powerful, that did nothing. One thing I tried was placing the flags inside of my castle, the siege camp would be made and destroyed right away but the troops were in the enemy castle:-( Then I put the flags in range of the walls, this time the blue invader, came onto the map and ran to the green castle and stayed there:-( I did try putting a hole in my wall, let the enemy walk right in, but that did nothing. The editor is the same as the one for SH3 and it was c**p and I'm starting to see that here to, the script for actions and triggers leaves a lot to be desired, having lazy invasions nearly kills the game:-( Well I hope we can figure it out, it was the same for the older games to and we managed to come up with something that made for good invasions, I'm not done yet though! What sort of things have you tried? -
Lord Vekta: do you want to do a joined map project?
Lord Vetka replied to Nigel's topic in Stronghold Crusader 2
That can be an interesting map, not to hard to make, my concern would be the ability of the cities to supply enough goods to make it work like you want, we might have to make the cities specialize on stone and iron as an example and have the player estates able to get wood and food. Or the other way around with the cities set in a green scape and your in the mountains with stone and iron, making sure your people are fed is priority though. I do have a few ideas, proper map size will be important here, I was playing in the editor the other day and was making mountain roads, maybe two mountain roads to take to pass by the cities like you suggested with the cities down in a bit of a valley. Maybe put the cities or one at the edge of the water with wharfs and have a ship at dock, how far apart should the player estates be from each other, maybe a road to the estates one then a little further along the next estate and do something different on the other 2 estates. Now I have an idea to work with, I will see what I can do in the editor. -
Hey Chris!!! This whole topic is out of place!

I'm not sure, did you place a flag for each action, one for where the enemy comes into the map and one for where you want them to attack, the second flag should be placed somewhere outside of the castle defenses you want them to attack. Do you have enough troops scripted to attack, the old Crusader would have lazy invasions, because they thought they would lose, so they would just stand at the sign post. I don't have a map made yet and can't test it for you, if you want to send me your map I could take a look and see if I can figure it out. -
I can use that address if you like, you should change the address in your profile to this one. Send me the story through the email you want me to contact you with and I will use that address from now on! Edit- you can send the email to sirvetka-at-gmail-dot-com, I should change the address in my profile as well! Thanks!

"The First Commands" Map Complete
Lord Vetka replied to Mathew Steel's topic in Stronghold Crusader 2
I have been in the editor checking out the paths and scripting invasions. To do paths, you want to make areas not accessible to troops, you do this by holding the left mouse button and painting an area and leave a path open for the troops to follow, right mouse button erases the pathing. To make invasions, you need to open the scenario editor, when you are in the scenario editor click on the events tab then create new event, then down to actions and click start invasions, then add action, this opens the invasion panel. From there you can add in the invasions when they happen where they come onto the map and where they go to. You can start an action with a condition but you would probably want to set it by time, right above, set how many days from the start. Hope that helps! -
If you would rather people contact you at a different email then you need to change the email in your profile. Click on your name and change the email address to one you prefer.

That's a good question, I have maps that have a long story, some with next to nothing, the to short stories cost you in downloads and ratings, most people don't like having to read a long story, but some sill love a long story. I would say make it what works for you, try and keep it reasonably short, but still get the idea across, I would be happy with one short page, making a long story works for me as well. I came back to find your email address and will send a map soon. Edit : the map is in the mail.

Great, I have some maps made with Crusader 1.1 and are fairly hard maps, you should do fine though. I would like you to play the map and come up with a story to go along with the map, I can supply some background for the map if you like, it would be nice to have a story that goes with what I was thinking when I made the map, but it does not really matter. I will send a map for you to check out and see if it is something you would like. Thank You for the offer!

Are you going to use a partition for each operating system? I have 7 on a 100 gig partition and a 50 gig partition on my new hard drive for XP. -
I have a request for anyone who likes to write stories, I do manage to write something for my maps but really don't care for it. What I'm asking for is for someone to play a map that I have made and is ready to be posted to the downloads, get a feel for the map and write a story for the map, then I can add the story into the zip folder and post the map. You would get full credits for any stories that get posted with the maps. I have several Crusader 1.1 war scenarios to post but no stories to go with them and would like to post the maps. I also have a few SH2 maps and hope to have some SHC2 maps to post soon as well. Thanks for reading my request. Lord Vetka

Lord Vekta: do you want to do a joined map project?
Lord Vetka replied to Nigel's topic in Stronghold Crusader 2
That sounds interesting. I'm still learning the editor though , it's not as easy as the older editors were. Tell me what you have in mind, lets see what we can do, all I ask for is a bit of patients! I do have several projects on the go.:-) Chris, I think this is a good thread, it might be of interest for people to see how this is going, we can report as we go! -
"new items" tag missing at downloads section

That would be great to have a notification when people post to your map! We had something like that at HG, I lost that somewhere and never did get it fixed, even though I asked a bunch of times. -

Thanks a lot Knez, I made that map from your suggestion to play 3x5, glad you like it! The map you modded is a good map as well, the 3 spots for us is limited but we can still win! I'm still up for the 10am game, see you there! Chris at this rate you will have your dual boot done before me, I hope it works out for you, it should be a simple basic install, 7 and 8 should have the same type of start files. With 7 and XP they are different, that's where my trouble come in. I was using "Easy BCD 2.2" to run the dual boot, do you need that to use 7 and 8? -
I just edited my last post with a link to Nigels answer to the rotating in the editor. To script the invasions you would need to use a trigger then an event, I have not looked into this to much yet and will follow up with more as I go. Chris, I believe that is what Nigel had to say about rotating buildings.

The map turned out quite well, our spots are a bit cramped but not bad, there is enough resources for the AI to build all there castles, but in play testing I found it a bit slow, crossing the river seamed to make it a bit hard for the AIs, a good thing for us though, the N spot is for the least experienced player next would the S spot and the main player would be in the middle spot, with an AI close across the river. What ever map we decide to play I'm looking forward to playing again! -
I believe there is a village barracks that can be added to a village when making a map, I have played a few maps with villages and have seen an extra building for the troops. The merc camp has a few new faces, there is now a healer, something I found about the healer is you can have them stand by your troops and they will slowly heal them, but when they stop, you can move the healer a bit and bring him back and he will start healing right away again, other wise it takes a while. There is also a troop cart where you can put 6 archers in to one and have as many as you want, the only thing I did not like is you can't get the troops out of them unless they are destroyed, I did an attack with 8 carts and as they got close to the castle the cart would get destroyed and the archers would stand there or try and walk away:=( The siege towers are a bit of a let down, the ballista has a long range, but a bunch of archers can take one out pretty fast.

Yes I do have the game and am trying to learn the editor now, there is a thread on how to rotate things in the editor but can't remember where right now. This editor is like the one for SH3, anyone experienced with it should be fine with this one, most of my work has been with terrain so far. I will be into a game tomorrow, what ever map you want to play is fine by me, I just uploaded my new 3x5 map called "Admindle", 3 players on the East side of the river against 5 AIs could be fun. -
Well, I bought the game yesterday from Steam, downloaded the editor right away, looks the same as the editor for SH3(, lets see how it goes. Steam, to much money and I don't even have a hard copy of the game, disappointing!
