Keeping High FPS, While Maintaining EyeCandy
Lord Vetka replied to Mathew Steel's topic in The Open Castle Inn
Good article, worth a rep point. Same idea different situation, the PC I have now is a dual AMD 64 bit running W7, without making any suggested changes I have to have SH2 set on medium, where all of my older PCs could run at high settings, plus this incompatibility is disappointing, most of the older games I like can't be played on this PC, any ideas? I have been trying to have XP dual boot on a separate drive, so far no luck and no time to make it work, W7 is installed first and is causing the problem for the XP start files, I know how to make it work, I just don't have the time right now. Then I could play the older games no problem. -
That would not be to hard, but there are only a few players playing multiplayer online games. Chris and me are the ones who would make the thread and change it as the scores come in, I would not have a problem doing it for you guys. As far as that goes, you guys could start a thread and maintain it yourselves, check with Chris first.

OOOPS, yes 1 hour, 44 minutes now.

My Favorites Troop: range units Castle: open AI Lord: The King Map Type: scenario I like to use range units to back up melee units, mostly archers and swordsmen. I don't usually enclose my castle, I like to give the AI an opening to come and die in! When the King finally does come out and attack it's with a strong force and swordsmen are the main units, if I'm playing around and don't want a hard AI I will through Edwin into a castle. I like scenarios because you can eliminate some of the silly things from the game, like the gong and rats, crime and disease, and you can restrict a lot of things with the editor making your own map to play.

The idea of making it competitive like that will change the game play! What I was trying to say, make a thread for the multi player games, for each player they would have their name listed in the first post, beside their name would be their rank, as the rank goes up a mod will make the changes in the first post. your ranks would be posted in the first post, after a game the winner would come into the thread and post their win, then a mod would make the change in the first post, any conflict and the other players will have a chance to say so. There could be a thread for each of the games.

Good luck EaglePrince! Yes you have the time right, we will play in about 2 hours. Have you decided on a map yet?
-
The map is called Arden and is in the downloads as a kingmaker, I posted it as a kingmaker so people could download the map and look it over play it if you want, there is a separate map for the contest that needs the territories colored in and scripted into a peace or war scenario, any way you like! The map is a full size map and is highly detailed with a raised crossable bridge, 2 choke points, multiple water falls, hidden paths, plenty of paths and roads and resources found all over the map, the kingmaker has 6 castle sites and lots of village sites, the map is made so you have a large variety of ways to script the map.

Maybe could have a thread where you get a custom title, not a custom title for the site, just for the multi players in a thread. The titles could be the same as for the site, the more games you win the higher your title. We could start with Serf or higher.
-
I should be able to play, you set the time to 10:30 Vancouver? Whatever map you guys choose is good for me!
-
You might be waiting a while for 15 people to come into the contest:-) I will put on another challenge map contest like the last one, this time I will make it a Crusader map. I plan on announcing it soon if that's good for you, maybe with the same prize.
-
Those ranks sound good, there should be more out there. Yes there will be a new contest soon, this time Crusader will be the game. EaglePrince you might get a custom title yet! I will post a thread for it soon.

Congratulations to both of you! Thank You for your contributions.

One thing we do have is a place for your saved games in the downloads. Here you either post a save of your start or later in the map to help other people who are new to the game, and also for people who are new to the game can post a save from a map they are having trouble with, and maybe some one can advise the player how to proceed.

Here's something I was thinking about, I made a map a while ago called "A Four Way Mix" it's posted here. It has four different castle sites, the SW one is open flat low ground, the NW one has flat open ground and a few raised area for towers, the NE site has raised ground and raised ground around the castle site itself for walls and towers and your gate, the SE site is behind natural defensive raised ground with walls gates and towers already made, and there are 2 small villages on the map. What I was thinking is to play 2v2, or 3v2, I could change the SE site so 2 players could build in there and 2 players could attack the site. After you break through the natural and prebuilt defenses then you would have to get through the 2 players castles, you would have an advantage after getting through the natural defenses because then you could use them against the 2 players castles. Sound Like Fun!!! What ever you guys would like to play would be fine by me, I might be able to play tomorrow. "http://www.stronghold-nation.com/downloads/category/stronghold-2/kingmaker/"

If we have enough people interested then we could start this contest. Lord Chris, how many interested people would we need to start the contest? If you are interested in joining the contest please tell us here, when we see enough interested people we could start the contest. It's a pretty easy contest, take an already made map and color in the territories you want and script in the events, test the map and send it in to be judged.

If you want to increase the sequence, I made it go up by 1 for 2 times then 2 for 6 times then 3 for 6 times then 4 for 5 times then 5 for... add 5 each time for 3 more then add 6 for 5 times, that should allow you to add 8 more. So- 46, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 76, 82, 88, 94, 100, 107, 114, 121, 128, 135, 143, 151... Then you have- 345, 396, 451, 511, 576, 646, 711, 787, 863, 951, 1045, 1145, 1252. That gives you 8 more sequences, for more keep adding the sequence to the total- add 114 to 1252 and so on. The total goes up fast after 511, I can change it to go a little slower if you want.

Things are looking up then, you have a clean install of SH2 and I have a new modem, you could try and do a restore if the problem shows again, to bad MS could not make sure older programs are simply compatible with the newer versions, without all of the self adjusting people have to do. Here's hoping we can get a game in today!

Your best Stronghold Crusader memories
Lord Vetka replied to EaglePrince's topic in Stronghold Crusader & Crusader Extreme
I have been a gamer for all of my life, my parents got together with friends to play cards, so I played cards, board games, played with trains, race car sets, as I got older I found pinball, then arcades were new, and game machines started showing up, then the first home PCs started to come out, 1995 I bought my first windows based PC and I bought 4 new PCs since then, my present PC is an AMD dual core 3400 phenom. My best new game experience was when I found the SHC demo, I was playing Age of Empires Age of Conquerors and Caesar 3 as my main games, I found the Crusader demo and installed it, and never looked back, the maps looked so much better than the age maps, the troops and buildings looked great and the game play was hard and addicting, the scenario that came with the game was hard, you against the Lionheart, that sounds simple enough, not for the first time playing, I did win that demo a few times before I managed to find a used game in a store, yes the game was getting old already and it was not available online at the time. Sh1 was out for a while, I found the demo for SH1 and tried it out, but after playing Crusader for a few years going back to SH1 just did not thrill me, I did buy it on GOG to help a friend to get his map tested and made a few maps for it but it never appealed to me like Crusader has. -
Looks like the 2 of us for now Chris, see you in the morning!
-
Very good, did you get the rep point? I'm not sure if it went. edit, looks like you got the point 36 to 37. Looks like a good start, I will have to learn to work this way and work faster. Not quite the same as a custom war scenario... Thank You very much! Now I will copy this to a note pad to read later.
-
I will say that I do not have a lot of experience with online play, along with a few more people I'm sure, and could use some pointers, even veterans can still learn something! Any help would be appreciated!

That's what I use militia for to, stop any enemy troops to give my range units an advantage. If the large army of militia was backed up by archers then it would be a different story, but to take an enemy castle would be next to impossible. Hmm, get in behind your attacking force and hit your castle, I might have to remember that =)
-
I will be able to play either day, maybe even both days. I can make time, so the time that is best for you... Tell me when and I will be there. Time is not on my side, so many things to do before the weather changes, I guess I will have to learn as I go, so long as you don't mind winning for a while =)
-
That's something I have to do more of, I place 2-4 fletchers at the start and maybe 1-2 pole turners, when I should be placing a lot more, to lazy from playing against the AI. I have 2 armies my defensive army and my attacking army, I never leave my castle undefended, except for when I come up short in the beginning:-) I will even use Militia if I have to. I wonder how long it would take to win with just Militia and Archers. "When attacking I use more crossbowmen and knights than anything else, occasionally I use a squad or two of pikemen to attack alongside the rest, but not often." And Trebs and Fire and ballista. :-)

Alright our first save uploaded great! Get some time and we will have more, yes it is to bad you did not have an earlier save, maybe next time. A real good example of how to build a castle, nice and compact and every thing you need, sending slaves to slow done the AI, good thinking I do that myself, but mostly to set fire to the castles. I can remember a situation about Crusader, I have to put that into my next reply when I have more time.
