I've been recently working on the site to update it in the past couple of weeks and I thought I'd share some of the updates with you to keep you from guessing from what is going on. Reputation: As many of you will now know, our forum uses a reputation system, and you can give reputation to a user by clicking the green button at the end of their post, giving them one rep point. You can remove one rep point by clicking the red button. We encourage you to use the reputation system on posts that are helpful to you, or that help other users, generally, helpful posts as a means of acknowledgement to the user that their post was helpful. Recently, I have updated this, and page loading should have significantly increased when viewing other users reputation (both given and received) and while viewing threads. This also uses AJAX now, as such, this means you don't need to refresh the page when giving reputation. This brings me on to another area: Page Loading: I have been working hard to make sure that pages load in the minimum amount of time possible, you should be able to see a large difference when viewing threads, the forum index (and also your profile). - but most of all, the main site's homepage The same goes for our download central. I have recently added several new features and intend to incorporate more. For example, the latest file in each download section is displayed on the downloads index, and I recommend you clearing your browser cache before using the downloads system again due to the fact several URLs have changed and you may receive 404 errors. I also intend to add a statistics page where you can view statistics about the entire download central. Currently, we have had over 3, 700 downloads in total! Emails: Emails are now sent (some, I'm working on the rest) in nice HTML instead of plain white for reply notifications for threads and I'm working on the PM now. Warnings: A new warning system has been installed. You can view the warning types here: http://forums.stronghold-nation.com/warnings/ Let me know what you all think! Thanks.

I've added your crest into my game. Do you want a custom crest in Lord Vetka?
-
Well spotted. I just copied it from the last one. I've fixed it know, thanks for pointing that out. :) Great! Added you to the list ^^ Yes, I like the sound of that: however, there is one limitation (which is that you've already stated). We would need to decide now who was which player - I'm obviously player one as I'm hosting, but it depends on who gets SH2 loaded the quickest from GameRanger & into the lobby as to who will be the next player - not who gets into GameRanger first. So we would have to decide now who would go in second and it may over-complicate things - but certainly worth a try! I've added you to the list in order of who replied to the thread first, so I'll add your crest as player three's on my game. My crest: http://cdn.stronghold-nation.com/article_images/sh2_crest.png

No it's on the 19th, not today - unless you were meaning you couldn't make it because you haven't installed XP yet?

To make all matches of stronghold 2 fair, we have decided to come up with these multiplayer rules. Any users who continuously ignore these may be banned from taking part in further multiplayer matches. This list may get updated at any time. No Assassins. They can't be seen by other players, and as such are a sly underhand means of winning. Thieves can be used, however, not in mass to attack an enemy lord. Siege equipment: You cannot use Fire Ballistas in excess - limit them to five or ten on the map at one time. The same goes for Trebuchets - please limit them to ten on a map. You are not allowed to place buildings around a village flagpole in an attempt to block players from taking over villages. Blocking pathways to the village is fine, but not the actual flagpole itself. No intentional, consistent use of burning carts No placing siege camps next to enemy units intentionally and for destructive purposes of those enemy units No repeated victimisation of certain players No discussion of forming teams or alliances during the game

Your best Stronghold Crusader memories

Nice idea. If we get a few more threads in this forum I'll consider a sticky for it. :) -
Crusader 2 will be Steam Exclusive!

Nothing definite yet, that is just a possibility. If anything is decided, then you'll be able to see it in the announcements (or competitions) forum. -
Gold! We need gold to play, where do you get it from?
Lord_Chris replied to Lord Vetka's topic in Stronghold 2
I try to make villages my main source of industry, and each village is responsible for a particular area - but doesn't always work if there aren't many estates so I end up using my own estate - but this is very useful considering the lower limit of 108 (I think) of workers in SH2 compared to 128 (or something similar) in SHL. -

I wouldn't say straight away, it will probably take a while. But who knows - the site may offer one for free in a contest at some point! You sound much more tolerable than me - I uninstall steam when not using SH3 - that's how much I hate it. I can't bear to have it hogging resource usage on my PC. -
Do you use under rated troops in mass?

Interesting idea.... I'll have to have a go of that. -

Leather armour is very easily made, but I mainly rely on other ways for gold. I also commandeer a load of estates in the game and use them for weapon production as well - this will help and in turn increase more gold. For those estates that have a source of iron I place an armoury and basically, an entire estate of armourer's workshops - I transport them back to my estate (often giving them to Charles of Tours when he's my ally :p) and sell them for gold. I'll go and download that I think! I love using villages instead of your own estates as well. Villages so easily provide things in mass that you don't want your own estate to produce (i.e. with me, Candles). Two or three villages means several items on mass, and luckily, unlike SHL you can place extra carter posts to send more than one shipment of goods to your estate, meaning more gold quicker. -

I actually disagree with that - I never make bread and in multiplayer I make about 20 thousand on gold (often more if Bradley doesn't kill me instantly  ). I mainly rely on wood. At the start of the game I set up ten to fifteen saw pits and then wait for them to collect loads of wood - I built other buildings that I need such as the food ones, I build a lot of stone quarries or iron mines depending what is available on the map, several ox tether for each one and get up a massive industry. What probably helps with all this, is that I only ever place one stockpile - never more; when that gets full, I simply sell goods from it (due to the large amount of saw pits normally wood, stone or iron) which give me a load of gold - I then sell any excess armour (normally I place several armourer's workshops on a map as the production is sooooo slow compared to other industrial buildings. Out of all the weapons, I believe it's armour which sells at the highest price. I also rely heavily on estates for gold; they not only provide honour but a steady supply of gold also. I also build buildings such as the jousting field and travelling fair which increase popularity (along with my food) and then set my taxes to high, sometimes higher. I use a variety of ways to get gold! -
What makes you so good on Stronghold Legends? How fast can you build up an army, and what do you do to create it that fast? What is your favourite strategy for taking out opponents?

Do you use under rated troops in mass?
Lord_Chris replied to Lord Vetka's topic in Stronghold Crusader & Crusader Extreme
I often buy a load of cheap mercenaries (such as Arabian Swordsmen) and I sell things to get a lot of gold to pay for them. Another favourite trick of mine is buying mass horse archers, which get killed easily by other archers - but in number they're great. I'm sure EaglePrince remembers from multiplayer when I bought more and more and more horse archers and kept them in different groups (at least that was my intent) At times (such as when I'm under attack without many troops available) I panic and buy a lot of the cheaper troops - so the answer to this question is probably a yes for me. But only when I'm desperate. Or, a good tactic would be to send them in to get destroyed and then send some swordsmen in after who will survive. In all fairness though, they don't take many archers to kill them. When I was playing multiplayer once, A load of slaves came charging to my castle and tried to go behind my castle, and I placed three or four archers and they basically all got killed - it was by the snake though (I think) -

It is certainly a downer, and if only people could be trusted it could be used - but in today's age, you have to assume that every user would do no good if proper restrictions aren't in place - and from what I've seen so far, a lot of guests have attempted just that. But bbcode is easier than HTML for those people who have no knowledge, and because bbcode is more widespread it's easier to remember.
