Your challenge is: Create a map similar to AmbleInn in Stronghold Crusader. The most adventurous will win. Useful resources http://www.stronghold-nation.com/downloads/file/364-ambleinn/ http://www.stronghold-nation.com/article/236-stronghold-crusader-editor-overview http://www.stronghold-nation.com/article/235-stronghold-1-editor-overview Note: Your entry must be attached to this topic by Midnight on Saturday to be counted in this challenge (23/4/16 23:59). If no entry is attached (via .zip. then your entry will not be counted! The results will be revealed on Sunday. Good luck everyone!

Wait - you're saying you still can't view attachments? I updated the forum yesterday, you should be able to now.

I can't actually remember names, I haven't heard of any like this for several years - which is why I said they're rare ;)

Yes, @Floki is correct - there aren't enough staff members or entries for judges of that number. Back to the challenge results for this week, both invasions were very well scripted, and they both had unique points that were good. @Tokamaps - 2 points @Floki - 3 points @Tokamaps This was a good invasion, but there were some noticeable errors in the scripting. The first error I noticed was when the Viking boat was supposed to separate into the Viking boat, they stayed still for a while and di not move. I also noticed that the Trebuchet took a very long time to destroy the gatehouse (even on game speed 90) and because of the position it was in (very far away from the gatehouse) it resulted in very inaccurate firing. The other problem I noticed was that when Lord Barclay was killed, the game did not win and I was left on the map. It's a pity that these errors were present, because the map itself is fantastic and so is the invasion! @Floki The invasions here were very well scripted indeed, I was very impressed. There was just the correct number of troops to push through the lines and get to the keep. I also liked the unique touch that was added which made the player's troops arrive in a boat, and two invasions afterwards which also did so. The part which I liked the most was the twist where the player defended the castle along with Lord Barclay and you could move the troops where you liked, and the balancing was very good. Congratulations @Floki, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thanks for both of your entries! I will go and take a look now. :) Do you mean you'd rather have two people judging the challenges rather than one?

I've heard of similar kinds of games, but yes, they are very rare. I haven't heard of this, but it does sound like it could be a fairly good game. Some lovely screenshots in the Game Features section of that site:

Yes, that works - but I'd still recommend you just upload the map file. exe files do simplify things but personally I prefer to make changes needed by hand.
-
You can't upload .exe files as they are blocked by the forum. I'd just upload the map file instead in a .zip as usual.

There are only a few hours left to the deadline! Make sure to get your submission in!
-
Yes, that's too late to start today. We'll have to sort something out another time.
-
I'll be ready to start and play at 2 PM - what time will you be ready at Mathew? Also @EaglePrince - I'll be able to play tomorrow as well if you like.

Well what we could do, is use different kinds of levels of "negotiations". If a lord wants to negotiate and he's being attacked, he could send out a message, the other player could temporarily withdraw their troops and then we could start negotiating. If that fails, the troops could be moved back in. Depending on how much the other lord wants (e.g. whether they want the full estate and goods or just goods) will depend on what exactly is left to them. But of course, once the gods have been delivered, the estate can be taken over by the other lord again so it can be temporary.

That's what this sticky topic is for: http://forums.stronghold-nation.com/topic/173-gaming-event-template/ I'd play in the afternoon and start between 2 & 3 PM - but I don't know what the time will be yet when I can play.
-
I don't believe that you can send goods to enemy estates - at least not enemy AI estates as I've tried before.
-
Already added configurable autosave ;) But I added the quit option to the list.
-
Yes, you could use a pre-built trebuchet if you need to.
-
Yes - you can use your castle from week 12. Anything you like! As long as it complies with the criteria, you can have as many invasions, boat invasions, additional invasions .etc as you want! :) You have to destroy it, but you could destroy it with a trebuchet, for example. It can be destroyed with anything. You can use Trade Ships, Viking Ships, or even both together if you want. If you read the bottom article on the help list (first post) it gives you a guide as to how to move ships effectively, and some ideas that you may want to include.

My main problem was that I was preparing defence rather than thinking of recruiting knights. And by the time I'd actually made a (fairly) decent defence, I had no gold or anything left to recruit troops, you were waiting on my doorstep and I had a total of two estates, the first one being so far away was an error. I should have focussed more on recruiting knights but part of the problem with that is that I was so concentrated on getting promotions and getting ahead that I didn't plan or think where my buildings should go. Mind it was very tough, there were an awful lot of trees placed sporadically around my estate and this made it extremely difficult to get any kind of building structure that worked. The first thing I did was place hundreds of saw pits to clear all the trees, and I kept selling that gold. At one point fairly early on in the game, I had 11,000 in gold - but I foolishly spent it all on statuses because my honour was so low. I never really recovered from that - as by that point, most of the trees had been cleared and wood was my main source of income. This was pretty much the point where we started - I had a quick call to arms, but because my attention was on clearing the trees, and creating a defence, I played much poorer than usual which I believe cost me the game. I like to compare my armies to the Roman army- brilliant in a standard formation, taking hours to setup .etc. But when ambushed, or a small number of troops caught off guard by a bigger number, or not having the time to prepare - they will lose every time! :D

If you haven't already entered then you can make a new map from scratch. But it's still scripting that we're focussing on.

Your challenge is: Setup a script to move a ship from one corner of the map (your map from week #12) to another, taking with them an invasion. The invasion must then invade and destroy a castle for Lord Barclay built into the hills. For this challenge, it would be best if you tried to leave as much of the original intact map as possible. You can alter the terrain, but it would be best if this was only altered slightly. Also, you will be marked on the scripting this week, not landscaping. If there are six of us playing, why not have three teams? I could team up with the person who struggles the most, and the other two players could team up, leaving the two AI together. We'll sort out the hosting stuff over GR, it's probably easier with the live chat. :)

@Strife - 2 points @Nigel - 2 points @Floki - 3 points @Strife There was some impressive landscaping on this map - you thought it out very well, I liked the tower and wall placement, particularly around the keep. It was very impressively placed. I also liked the way the terrain wrapped around the wall on the right and above the castle. I'll also comment and say just how good the shape of the castle is. If this map had been finished, it would probably have 3 points - it really is very good! @Nigel This map is fairly good - there could have been more detail, but for the time spent this was a good castle which matches the description well. I particularly liked the few extra buildings you placed outside of the castle, giving the impression of a village nearby. My favourite feature was the terrain around the walls on the visible side, which was lowered. Great job for a quick attempt! @Floki This castle it very well detailed. For your first Stronghold 1 map, this is excellent! While it isn't as accurate to the description as the other two are, this is made up for by the amazing tricks, such as the stone bridge and the river on the right of the map. You've done your very best to place marshland, trees and create an atmosphere inside the map - and this showed. Really good work! Congratulations @Floki, this was a very well deserved win! For a very small amount of time, you've managed to create a very well detailed castle. Thank you everyone for your entries!

Thanks for all your entries everyone! I'm downloading and reviewing them now. Good luck! :)

As for settings, I'd prefer Freeman, but it's probably best for Nigel to decide too, so I'd say wait (for the other options too) until we start and Nigel can have input as well. :)

That was a really interesting point @Crusader1307 - I've never seen it put like that before. If only all people were as wise! My main question is - why? Obviously with terrorism and the like on the rise, that may change this situation - but imagine a world without it. Why would an average American need a gun in the 21st Century, where no real threats (supposedly) exist? Back to the question though, I can only speak for the UK, and what I think is best - and have seen here. Personally, I see no real reason for an average person to have a gun (with the exception of things such as air rifles or guns for bird shooting), because I feel this should be left to the professionals. It only aids terrorism and can be catastrophic in the hands of the wrong person. But I'm also for tighter checks when acquiring a gun. I believe a person wishing to buy a gun must be cleared by a psychologist and have a full family background check, along with other health checks before they even consider the reason for wanting a gun. I also believe that you shouldn't just be able to "buy" shotgun licenses as you can now. I have been brought up in a society where there are no guns, but for me - I would not feel comfortable with people having guns on the street, or having the ability to buy them. In simpler terms - I'd say that it should be very difficult for people to get their hands on guns, only for very essential purposes. I also think they should regularly have to have health checks every X years after their license would expire - and if they don't renew it, the gun would be taken from them.
