Stronghold 3 buy info and mini review
sh4d0wknight7447 replied to bradley0095's topic in Stronghold 3
Is this game actually worth getting? I haven't exactly heard critical acclaim for this game (unintentional rhyme). -
Do these have to be huge maps or are they made as much as we want to develop them?

Stronghold 2 and Stronghold Legends at GameRanger
sh4d0wknight7447 replied to EaglePrince's topic in Stronghold 2
There are options for LAN although I'm not sure where on the interface :/ -
The bug I love is the one which makes soldiers hit by a catapult or ballista just disappear inside a wall or building. I use that to dispose of pretty much all my enemies because I use the ballista a lot (usually in number, say around 50).

Well that's just ruined my day :'(

Hahaha, you don't have to if you don't want to - it was merely a suggestion. ;)

Map name: Drowsiness is not a virtue Story: Sir Grey being a very sleepy lord (from all his weight lifting). He had a habit of sleep walking although he had claimed to have overcome this years ago. When his servants went to look for him, however, he was not in his room. Later, Sir Grey sent a bird message all the way from bandit territory in Whittlesworth. Once a thriving fortress, this now derelict castle serves as a main hub for all outlaws. It is heavily guarded, and the outlaws do not seem to be aware of his presence. Yet. Sir Krydon, one of Sir Grey's best and most loyal knights, has been unofficially called up to rescue Sir Grey. Knowing there is no chance to mobilize such an army with a magnitude which could overpower Whittlesworth, he secretlu calls upon Matthew Steele, a former knight of the King before he was framed by Sir Edwin for killing the King. With a vengeance and yearning for justice, Matthew Steele is sent on a three man operation to rescue Sir Grey. Map - should be a massive kingdom with many black enemies. Players must use stealth, tactics, strategy and a small element of luck in order to reach Sir Grey with the 3 assassins. Enemies should be placed so that the most obvious route is more risky and the more strategic route, though not easy to see, provides an easy route past patrols. Expect reinforcements if any assassins are killed. Length: Long Depending on how well the map is made and what the logistics of it are, this puzzle should take at the very least 30 minutes to complete, an hour average- perhaps more depending on the skill of each player Player Resources: No resource except the assassins should be given Win Conditions: -The Assassins reach Sir Grey Lose Conditions: - Every assassin is dead - (For more skilled players) Time has run out Just improvised this idea, though a stealth mission seems quite exciting if one can pull it off :)

I think it's fair to say that for pretty much everyone here, we have all got some happy memory of Stronghold which makes us love it. These memories are in fact what make me love to play it because it is nice playing in that same atmosphere and having other people to revel in this nostalgia. I made this thread because I thought some people would like to share their best memories in any stronghold game. Mine is in Stronghold 2, and it has to be the mission where you take over Edwin's castle and you have to make sure that his economy survives. I think the main reason I still remember this is because it probably took me more time than every other level I played in SH2 combined to complete. It is also likely that I remember this because of how much it made me hate Edwin. How about you guys? :)

Stronghold 2 and Stronghold Legends at GameRanger
sh4d0wknight7447 replied to EaglePrince's topic in Stronghold 2
Can someone please give me a link to GameRanger so that I may install it (if it is even an application) , it would be much appreciated :) You need to play via GameRanger still, regardless whether you're playing on LAN or not I don't think this is necessarily true, I have been playing LAN with my friends when they come round and connect to my internet, and I hadn't even heard that the servers were shutting down, let alone having to install GameRanger. I am confused. :what: -
Is it still worth having a go? I have minimal experience with map creating although I do have good knowledge on how to use the facilities thanks to the tutorials Lord_Chris made.
-
Do you know if Firefly even still patch the Stronghold games anymore? It would be nice to know if they think the games are "alive" to be worth patching up and fixing these bugs. :|

Oh right that makes more sense. I haven't played a lot of multiplayer because I always seem to miss the events and it's quite a lot of hassle to organize and execute them, though I would be willing to play anytime because I am eager to see the multiplayer mechanics and configuration of the multiplayer. I only know that different player colors are possible, which is another reason I am eager to try.

Increasing the Outlaws' Javelin Speed
sh4d0wknight7447 replied to sh4d0wknight7447's topic in Stronghold 2
I think I may have solved it although it's hard to get into specific situations where the outlaw uses his javelin and when I go into map editor and play, the player keeps crashing (looking at your tutorial now). I replaced the physical meshes as well and some other animation files and the outlaw seems to stop and throw rather than go hand to hand with the enemy. However, I'm not entirely sure and I am still testing to verify this, will keep you guys posted. -
You get gold for double rations?

Your opinion of rats, gong, and criminals in Stronghold 2?
sh4d0wknight7447 replied to EaglePrince's topic in Stronghold 2
I mean it's not like someone one living in the medieval times would be walking along when suddenly "a wild piece of gong appears" or "uh-oh, you're gonna die son because that rat near your feet is only kill you with the plague and no-one else because this Stronghold plague is noncontagious ". They were unnecessary features and didn't really add anything to the game other than be really annoying when you're amassing an army or focusing on more pressing activities. If there was some incentive to clear gong and get rid of rats, say, honor given for every rat cleared and gong removed, then people would be more inclined to actually do something about it rather than just let it sit there and rot your kingdom. The crime system did this but it was not exactly "productive" because you were losing some of your workers to gain honor and it was a very long and arduous system until this actually happened. The best solution to get back that building which the supposed "criminal" was working in is to delete it and then rebuild it which is a pain to manage when you have to fight a war as well. This is one of the main reasons I do not build any hovels to avoid getting all these penalties, because it actually gave me a chance to beat the King in kingmaker. Honestly it was one of the really bad things about this game. -
If you guys could share this then that would be fantastic. I did this in response to some guy who was talking about how hard it is to sustain double rations and this was just a helper to him, although I can't find that particular thread and I don't know who he was :P

Increasing Hunter Kill Rate I found this nice little trick which allows you to have a faster hunt rate with hunters. I found it because I knew that archers in SH2 had a much faster fire rate than hunters, and thus their animations would have to be faster. You will want to go to this directory: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Firefly Studios\Stronghold 2\meshes\units\animations" And you will see this: Remember to back up your files. While here, you will need to go to the "worker" and "soldier" folder. In the "worker" directory, locate the "hunter_shoot_arr ow.GR2" and "hunter_shoot_arrow_end.GR2" files. Rename these "hunter_shoot_arrow_backup.GR2" and "Hunter_shoot_arrow_end_backup.GR2" or something similar so you can configure your setup with relative ease if something should go wrong. Then, go to your "soldier" directory and look for the files "archer_shoot_arrow.GR2" and "archer_shoot_arrow_end.GR2". Copy these files and paste them in your "worker" directory. Once you have done this, rename: (" -> " means rename to) "archer_shoot_arrow.GR2" -> "hunter_shoot_arrow.GR2" and "archer_shoot_arrow_end.GR2" -> "hunter_shoot_arrow_end.GR2" Finally, navigate to this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Firefly Studios\Stronghold 2\meshes\units\models And rename "hunter.GR2" to "hunter_backup.GR2". Then copy and paste "archer.GR2"in the same folder, renaming the copy to "hunter.GR2". Now, when you launch the game, it should look something like this:

Right, just had a look and I can see this line occurring frequently within the shading files: float4(0, 0, 0, 0); Using a bit of C++ myself, I can see that it is stating 4 variables, and these could be a vector, position, color (red, green, blue values), etc. In addition, I think the more obvious and most probable solution is located within the "TeamColour.FX" so I think some trial and improvement will be involved to changing the color, however I see one potential problem - that changing these variables will change every player color. I'll poke around with this, change the constant variable values and see what I find. In the mean time while your computer is down, I would appreciate you finding similar forums and references because this one was really useful. :)

I play on the same version as you, and I resolved it by turning down my graphics, running in compatibility mode and as an administrator and that stopped it. It seems more efficient though to downgrade to 1.3 because there are less noticable glitches and bugs. Firefly made more by trying to fix them in version 1.4 so it's a good idea to downgrade.

Your opinion of rats, gong, and criminals in Stronghold 2?
sh4d0wknight7447 replied to EaglePrince's topic in Stronghold 2
Yeah that sounds like a perfect way to sum it up. To be honest, I have only played Legends and Stronghold 2 so I don't really have good comparability skills but I can infer from what your saying is that SH2 is different in terms of economic growth and production. -
Placing a market and selling pretty much all my resources is the religion I live by. Honestly, I don't think there's ever been a game I've played (or any game for that matter) in which people don't use markets for mass-production and hyper-inflation. I probably shouldn't do this because it sends my entire kingdom into a depression and then I get promptly slaughtered by Olaf and his 1 million beserkers who destroys my kingdom anyway.

Right thank you for that, looks awesome! ;)

I had pretty much the same issue and I have the same operating system as you. I fixed mine by launching in compatibility mode for (Windows XP service pack 3) and running as an administrator and with the firewall off. I had my firewall off the whole time so it seems that my previous solutions were probably the ones which solved this problem. I don't think this is right because I have been using 1.3 on my computer because the Ballista auto-fire was enabled (for some reason it was disabled in 1.4.1) and I played with my friends on GameRanger who were all playing with v1.4.1, which I confirmed after reading this post. :)

I think I will revisit this idea later after I've brainstormed some ideas, I don't want to rush into this because it can be something good but it shouldn't crunch too much of my time xD
